For a long time now, it has been a goal of mine to write a book. For a lot of that time, I wanted to write a cookbook. Share my recipes with the world, in hardback, on bookshelves and empower people with a favourite concept of mine, food as medicine. I’ve collected cookbooks for about 8 years now, spending hours pouring over them, devouring the words and pictures as I would a comforting meal. They filled me up, empowered me, inspired me. And the feeling, that powerful feeling, was something I wanted to give to someone else.
While real food, cooking, nutrition and food as medicine remain a deep passion of mine, the last year of my life has seen a shift in their value, slightly, in favour of inspiring self-empowerment within myself and others. Continue reading

On Friday morning, slightly bleary-eyed, I woke up with the excited realisation that today was the day I had come here for; I was going to the Bupa Blog Awards!
To give you an idea of how excited I was, I was dressed, make-up and hair done and purse packed and ready an hour and a half before I needed to leave, and my goodness, was I impatient! I decided that as I had a spare ticket, I would invite one of the other hostel guests to be my plus one, and luckily for me, Mitch, the American (who to my extreme jealousy was going to see Ben Folds live at the freaking Opera House that night!) had just purchased some clean duds to wear to such an event, and just happened to be free. When I asked if you guys wanted this recipe, I was overwhelmed by the response and so very excited too! If you follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed that I am a little obsessed with making my own hollandaise sauce of late, so as with other food obsessions, I end up making said recipe almost every day/meal. Seriously though, who doesn’t love hollandaise?

With increased awareness and understanding, over 17% of the Australian population (that’s 3.7 million people) are avoiding particular foods due to allergy or intolerance. Whenever I meet someone new, one of the most common things I am told about or asked about is that person’s (or their friend or family member’s) food intolerance or allergy, and how hard it is for them to find out what to eat or for them to actually stop eating the food that gives them their symptoms. Often, people are unwilling to completely remove said foods from their diet (I certainly was) and have an emotional attachment that makes them feel like they are missing out or feel that the food is a comfort to them, so continue to eat the food, or even worse – binge eat the food.
With this in mind, I thought that I would discuss my tips on living with a food intolerance, mixed with a bit of tough love, because you may not really realise, but by eating the food you are intolerant to, you are setting yourself up for a lot of damage.
