A Sweeping Declaration and My Daily Routine

I started writing this post on Thursday, and most of what is below is from that day of writing. But since then a few things have made me realise that this week is the perfect week to do a No Social Media Challenge. Now, obviously with my blog I use Facebook and Instagram to keep you all updated, and its certainly essential to getting my blog out there in the big wide world; but I also use it a lot in my social life. In fact, over the last few months the “tag a friend who is always on Facebook/on their phone/taking selfies” has been on the increase and I’m not ashamed to admit, I’m starting to worry a little bit.

Basically, what I’m saying is that I’ve decided I’ve become too reliant on my bad social media habits as a way to procrastinate lately and I have too much to do this right now to let myself do this anymore – I have a business to start and Certificate III in Microbusiness Operations to finish! Get it together Mira!!! While I have been getting things done, I just need to be much more productive than usual.

So here it is, my sweeping declaration: After I post this blog on Facebook today I will be purging myself of Facebook and Messenger, Instagram, Facebook Pages and Snapchat until Monday 12 October.

Since this whole experience of starting my own business has begun, I’ve had a huge surge of energy and motivation, coupled with moments of

I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I’M DOING!!!

It’s quite the rollercoaster of emotion, I can tell you. But its enabled me to develop my own routine again for the first time in quite a while. Although said routine is very much still developing, this routine is much different to any other I’ve developed in the past, and its really helped me to keep my “eye on the prize” so to speak because I know what it is I want and need to get completed every day. Starting a business as a sole trader means that your job becomes your life, so mastering the balance between work and home is incredibly important to avoid burn-out but still be productive. For me, I need to balance my home life (food, exercise, housework, personal hygiene, social life, relaxation, budget), my work life (anything and everything you will and will not ever think of to do with starting a business, nutritional research, marketing, the NEIS program (New Enterprise Incentive Scheme), networking, casual job) and my blog life (planning blogs, writing blogs, creating recipes, researching, marketing, networking, Instagram, Facebook).

This routine is simply what works best for me right now. It may change a little here and there, but for the most part, this is how I get my day together so I resemble a little less of a hot mess than usual. =)

MORNING ROUTINE

5.45am

At this time I usually wake up, prop myself up to a sitting position, grab my drink bottle (always next to my bed) to start hydration my body as soon as possible and peruse my social media accounts for 15 to 20 minutes. I have come to the realisation that in order for my routine to work, I need to acknowledge social media by allowing myself time to look at it before I do anything else. It’s part of my business, part of my blog and part of my social life, and if I don’t schedule it in there I’ll look anyway and the whole routine collapses.

6/6.05am

This is when my alarm tells me to “Rise & Shine”, so I get up and make my way to the bathroom.

Ever since I got my Clarisonic Mia2 back (it was a pressie from my gorgeous sister) I’ve been making the effort to wash my face morning and night with it. I love the Clarisonic because my pores feel clearer than any exfoliant has ever been able to manage on my skin, it only takes a minute and its gentle, so my skin feels soft and even. Currently I’m just using up the product that came with the Clarisonic, because, although I’m aware of the chemicals in the cleanser, I don’t want to be wasteful.

After this I will put in my contacts if I’m doing my workout outside, then I moisturise with the Mandarin Facial Hydrating Cream by Aesop. A tub of this goodness lasts me over 6 months and is perfect for my combination/oily skin.

6.10am

At this time I head upstairs to make myself a smoothie.

Before I begin, I put a teaspoon of coconut oil in my mouth, and once its melted I then swish it around my mouth for the next ten minutes. This is an Ayervedic technique called oil pulling, said to aid detoxification and improve dental and digestive health and I have truly noticed a difference in my dental health in the few weeks I’ve been consistently doing it. When I’m done swooshing, I simply spit and swoosh a little warm water, then spit that out too.

Meanwhile (while swooshing) I put together a protein smoothie, usually with almond milk and some sort of fruit (pictured here is the Chocolate Peanut Butter Dream). Delicious!

6.25am

Get dressed into my workout gear and use natural deodorants to combat the body odour I’m about to produce in my workout. I currently use a combination of Ecotan Deodorant (which has a subtle, almost chocolatey scent) and seal that in with my Crystal Body Deodorant Stick. Both are free of parables and aluminium, but I find that the combination of both types works best for me.

6.30am

Here is where I fit either a session with my gorgeous PT Seanna, a nice yoga session in my room or a strength session at home (sometimes with the help of YouTube).

7.30/8am

I put together one of the yummy breakfasts you will often see on my Instagram and Facebook, and if I’m leaving the house to work, I pack my lunch too. Then I do the expected eating said breakfast and wash my dishes (mindblowing, right?!)

8/8.30am ish

I shower, do my hair and brush my teeth with my electric toothbrush in this space (I can tell you are just on the absolute edge of your seat with that insight, but my dentist friends Peyman and Ronan completely approve!) then moisturise with my Grown Alchemist Mandarin & Rosemary Leaf Body Cream. I like using the Grown Alchemist products because they are free of the nasty chemicals that not only put extra pressure on your liver in order to break down, but are damaging to the environment. The added bonus with these is that they smell DIVINE! My lovely friend Laura introduced me to the Grown Alchemist products at my birthday this year, truly a match made in heaven!

Then I start work, either working at home, in the library or a café.

Once I’ve set myself up, I write an itemised to do list of all the things I need/want to get done for the day and then I get to work.

NIGHT ROUTINE

My night time routine is fairly simple, and has me going to bed around 9.30/10pm. I don’t necessarily do these things at specific times, instead I just get them done, then go to bed. Once a week, before bed, I indulge in a pamper night to get me really relaxed and to rest my muscles properly and its been making me feel really good to dedicate one night a week to something so simple, yet so influential.

Firstly, I wash my face again with my Clarisonic Mia2, then moisturise again. I take out my contacts (if I didn’t earlier) and brush my teeth. All the usual bedtime stuff. I fill up my drink bottle (I need this beside my bed each night) and say goodnight to my housemates.

Then I get into my pj’s, turn on my lamp, plug in my phone and make sure I have my drink bottle, a notepad and pen and my diary by my bedside. I keep the notepad next to my bed for the stressful nights when I wake up full of things I need to do, so that I can write them down and stop them from circling around and playing up my insomnia.

I then do my final social media check, set my alarms and fill in my daily “Health Log” on the Glow app. I’ve found this app incredibly helpful to keep track of not only my menstrual cycle, but my sleep, exercise, alcohol intake, emotions, symptoms and energy levels. I feel so much more in touch with my body since tracking everything every night for the past 2 months, I really recommend it. Then I close my phone and make sure its on silent and sitting upside down on my bedside table so that no noise or sound from it will wake me up.

The last thing I do of a night (which I think is incredibly crucial to my productivity and sleep) is I get out my diary and write down anything that I can remember that needs to be done in the next day (or even the next few weeks). When I’m satisfied with this list, I put it on the floor, put on my handcream (Grown Alchemist Vanilla & Orange Peel Hand Cream), turn off my lamp and go to sleep.

So that is my routine. I am now off to live a social media free week which I’m sure I will probably blog about at some stage. I hope you have a wonderful and productive week.
